Vain Bird Dramas
They Vain Birds Kelly and Kevin are the most fabulous landlords ever. First of all, the place is a dream: furnished, with the whole cable/wi-fi/all utilities paid, and so on. Then there's the deal with the rent: None. Then there are the peacocks. That's right. Three of them: two males (Gorgeous George and Crash) and a female (Dorie). Dorie is in estrus right now and has paired off (much to the dismay of Crash) with George. George, not content with his prize, has made it his mission in life (well, his other mission in life--the first being to go forth, be fruitful and multiply) to bring about the untimely demise of Crash. Yesterday, George chased Crash off the roof of The Big House right into Lewie's (K&K's blue heeler) jaws. (This was after K&K had to jump the neighbors' fence to save George from the neighbors' new dog Rainy.) Okay, and the funny part? I wasn't at home, but was kept up to date by Kelly, who phoned me with each new happening. ("We jumped over the fence to save George, and the neighbors were home and they had no idea what was going on! They didn't even know that we were there!" and later, "Lewie attacked a vase of peacock feathers. He didn't get Crash, but he got the feathers. The vase is fine though. Okay! I've got to go!") (And can I just say? I love Kelly! How can you not?) I'm telling you, those animals are going to need therapy when this is done. And Dorie? Stays out of the fray, pecking around in the little courtyard of the little casita, pretending like it's not her hormones stirring up all this trouble. Drama And Mo' Drama The certificate of eligibility arrived from Japan, which will net me a work visa. And Monday I start substitute teaching in my little town.
