What It Takes Versus What It Takes Out Of You What does it take to go halfway around the world? A large, internal frame backpack. A small fanny pack. A shoulder bag with a copy of, among other books, Civil Disobedience.
Gumption. Courage. A sense of adventure. The belief that you can do some good in the world. The desire and ability to run. (To run from what? Let's not talk about that right now.) Mitch & Shoshona This is the woman who picks up the pieces when Mitch has pushed himself to the limit, when he has pushed himself over the limit, when he goes over the edge, when the Universe says, "Look here!" She picked up the pieces after his mother died, after the motorcycle accident, after the depression settled in. She'll be here too, when he returns.
This is the woman who drove Mitch to the train station. Me & Mitch "It's because of our conversation on December 31st that I'm going."
I am the woman who Mitch said these words to. I am the reason Mitch ultimately decided to run. I am the woman who learned from this. I am the woman who said goodbye to my dear friend Mitch yesterday outside a coffeeshop in the student ghetto. Good-bye, Dear Friend This is Mitch, getting into Shoshona's car. I hope our paths cross again in this lifetime.
