what next?
i've recently been walking with kelly and judi in the afternoons. judi lives in an upscale part of town, so we usually walk a three mile loop in her neighborhood. on the weekends, we go for longer walks along the river or in the neighborhood where kelly and i live. yesterday, it snowed as we walked. today, it was so cold that i wished for gloves and a hat. i came back with a chapped face! i like walking with kelly and judi, partly because they're interesting and fun to talk to. (kelly told us about having to do eight push-ups for one of her classes. judi talked about the new diet she and paul are on.) but our friendship also amazes me when i consider the differences in our ages. kelly and judi would kill me if they knew i was writing about this--but i will say that our ages span thirty-five years! i think it's important to have friends of all ages, so judi and kelly are especially important to me. and, too, it's nice to get back to walking. judi and i have been having trouble getting back on a routine since i came back from singapore. but it's nice to be outside now that winter is coming. (i guess you could say it's already here, since it snowed!) other things that have been occupying my time? i've been reading a lot. first, i read ruth reichl's book garlic and sapphires. it was about her years as a restaurant critic for the new york times. after i was finished with that, kelly gave me a couple of books that her sister- and brother-in-law left for me to read. one is called out by natsuo kirino. it is a crime novel, translated from japanese. it's not that great, but i finished it in one evening. the other book was called american fuji by sara becker. it was a fast read, but not a great (or even good) book. i also finished it in a few hours. now what will i read??
